Four Days in Downtown Seattle
There are some cities that you visit simply to check off your bucket list… and then there are cities that completely surprise you.
Seattle was definitely the second one.
I had visited Washington before, but this was my first opportunity to really experience downtown Seattle, explore its incredible food scene, and spend a few days simply enjoying everything the city has to offer. Between amazing weather, incredible restaurants, beautiful waterfront views, and one of the nicest hotels I've stayed at in a long time, this trip exceeded every expectation.
If you’ve been considering a Seattle getaway, let me just say…
Go.
You’ll thank me later.
Our trip began with an easy nonstop flight from Ontario International Airport (ONT) to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) aboard Alaska Airlines.
We booked Premium Class, and it made the flight feel like the vacation had already started before we even landed.
The extra legroom was appreciated, the service was wonderful, and once beverage service started, I enjoyed a glass of wine while my husband relaxed with an IPA. Sometimes it’s the little things that set the tone for an entire vacation.
Alaska Airlines continues to be one of my favorite domestic carriers. Friendly crews, comfortable cabins, and an overall relaxing experience made the quick flight fly by.
Before long, we were descending over Puget Sound with spectacular views of Seattle waiting below.
Grand Hyatt Seattle
If I could recommend one thing for anyone planning a trip to Seattle…
Stay at the Grand Hyatt Seattle.
Seriously.
I’ve stayed at a lot of hotels over the years, and this property absolutely deserves the recognition it receives.
From the moment we pulled into the valet entrance, everything felt luxurious without feeling stuffy.
Check-in was effortless, and we were greeted with one of my favorite surprises…
A complimentary glass of champagne.
What a wonderful way to begin a vacation.
Sometimes it’s those thoughtful little touches that immediately tell you you’re going to have a great stay.
Our Room
We were fortunate enough to stay in a spacious high-floor corner room, and the views were incredible.
Large windows filled the room with natural light and gave us sweeping views of downtown Seattle.
The room itself was beautifully designed with modern finishes while still feeling warm and inviting.
Some of my favorite touches included:
- Plush robes
- Comfortable slippers
- A spacious bathroom
- Comfortable bedding
- Plenty of room to spread out after long days exploring
After walking miles each day, slipping into one of those robes became part of our nightly routine.
Hotel Amenities
After walking all over Seattle, soaking in the hot tub before bed was the perfect way to recharge for another day of exploring.
We also enjoyed room service one morning, which arrived quickly and was exactly what we needed before heading back out into the city.
One thing I really appreciate in a hotel is when it gives you reasons to actually spend time there—not just sleep there.
The Grand Hyatt absolutely delivers.
The fitness center was one of the nicest hotel gyms I’ve visited, with excellent equipment, plenty of space, and everything needed for a full workout.
Afterward?
The wellness facilities were incredible.
We enjoyed:
- Jacuzzi
- Steam room
- Sauna
It honestly felt more like a luxury spa than a hotel amenity.
Location, Location, Location!
One of the biggest reasons I’d choose the Grand Hyatt Seattle again is its location.
You simply cannot beat it.
Being located in the heart of downtown meant we could walk almost everywhere.
Restaurants.
Coffee shops.
Shopping.
Pike Place Market.
The waterfront.
Everything was within easy walking distance.
We never felt like we were wasting time driving around or searching for parking.
Instead, every morning we simply stepped outside and started exploring.
For travelers visiting Seattle for the first time, I honestly can’t imagine a better place to stay.
It’s luxurious, comfortable, walkable, and puts you right in the middle of everything.
As someone who loves discovering cities on foot, this location made the entire trip so much more enjoyable.
Seattle Food Scene
Let’s talk about the food…
Because wow.
Seattle completely exceeded my expectations.
Every restaurant felt unique, and nearly every meal became a highlight of the trip.
If you appreciate fresh ingredients, handcrafted food, and sourdough, this restaurant absolutely belongs on your itinerary.
Von’s 1000 Spirits is famous for making nearly everything using its own sourdough starter.
Pizza.
Pasta.
Bread.
Even many of their cocktails have creative twists that fit the restaurant’s personality.
Everything tasted incredibly fresh, and the sourdough flavor elevated every bite.
It’s easy to understand why locals recommend this restaurant so often.
Pike Place Market
No trip to Seattle would ever be complete without visiting the iconic Pike Place Market.
Walking through the market is an experience all by itself.
Fresh flowers.
Seafood.
Local artists.
Unique shops.
Street performers.
The energy is contagious.
Of course, we had to stop for one of Seattle’s most famous foods…
A warm bowl of clam chowder.
Creamy, rich, and packed with flavor, it was exactly what you’d hope for on a Seattle afternoon.
Even in July, chowder somehow just feels right here.
This may have been one of my favorite discoveries of the trip.
I’m still thinking about it.
Rachel’s Ginger Beer isn’t your average ginger beer.
It’s handcrafted using fresh ingredients and comes in incredible seasonal flavors that are perfectly balanced—not overly sweet, but packed with fresh ginger flavor.
Whether you’re enjoying one straight or as part of one of their creative cocktails, this place is worth seeking out.
I honestly wish we had one back home.
I’ll absolutely be stopping here again on our next visit.
Every city has great coffee.
Seattle has legendary coffee.
While everyone knows Starbucks was born here, I love finding smaller coffee shops with personality.
Storyville Coffee was exactly that.
Comfortable atmosphere.
Excellent espresso.
Friendly staff.
And a perfect place to slow down for a while before continuing to explore downtown.
Sometimes vacations aren’t about rushing.
Sometimes they’re about sitting with a great cup of coffee while watching a city wake up around you.
If you’re familiar with Din Tai Fung, you’ll immediately understand why Dough Zone has developed such a loyal following.
Fresh dumplings.
Noodles.
Soup dumplings.
Everything was fantastic.
Even better?
The prices are significantly lower while still delivering outstanding quality.
It’s one of those restaurants where you immediately begin planning what you’ll order the next time you visit.
Hands down one of the most memorable dinners of the trip.
Hidden away near Pike Place Market, The Pink Door feels like discovering one of Seattle’s best-kept secrets.
The cozy Italian atmosphere, outstanding handmade pasta, fresh seafood, and warm hospitality made for an unforgettable evening.
This is the kind of restaurant that becomes part of the experience—not just another meal.
If you’re celebrating something special or simply want an amazing dinner, don’t skip this one.

Chihuly Garden & Glass
If there’s one attraction in Seattle that completely exceeded my expectations, it was Chihuly Garden and Glass.
Pictures simply don’t do it justice.
Located right next to the Space Needle, this incredible museum showcases the breathtaking work of world-renowned glass artist Dale Chihuly. Every room feels like stepping into a different world, with massive hand-blown glass sculptures bursting with vibrant colors, intricate details, and imaginative designs.
Each exhibit was more impressive than the last. The towering installations suspended from the ceilings, the colorful glass gardens, and the beautifully lit galleries made it impossible to stop taking photos. No matter where you looked, there was another masterpiece waiting to be discovered.
One of my favorite parts was the outdoor garden, where Chihuly’s colorful glass sculptures are seamlessly woven into the natural landscape. The contrast between the lush greenery and the brilliant glass creations is absolutely stunning. Even if you’re not someone who typically visits art museums, this place has a way of captivating everyone.
The famous Glasshouse is another unforgettable highlight. The enormous suspended sculpture beneath the soaring glass ceiling is breathtaking, especially with the Space Needle towering just outside. It’s one of those places where you naturally slow down, look around, and simply appreciate the creativity and craftsmanship behind every piece.
If you’re planning a trip to Seattle, I genuinely believe Chihuly Garden and Glass should be at the top of your itinerary. Whether you’re traveling as a couple, with friends, or as a family, it’s an experience that you’ll remember long after your trip is over.
Without question, this was one of the most beautiful attractions we visited during our entire stay—and it’s a place I’ll return to every time I’m back in Seattle.
Lake Union and the Donut Boat
One of the most unique experiences of our trip happened on Lake Union.
Instead of renting kayaks or paddleboards, we rented an electric Donut Boat.
Yes…
A floating donut.
And it was every bit as fun as it sounds.
The slow cruise across Lake Union gave us incredible views of Seattle’s skyline, beautiful waterfront homes, floating houses, seaplanes taking off, and people enjoying the sunshine.
The electric motor made it incredibly easy to drive, allowing us to simply relax and enjoy the scenery.
It’s such a fun activity for couples, families, or groups of friends.
Definitely something I would recommend adding to any Seattle itinerary.
The Weather Could Not Have Been Better
Whenever people think about Seattle, rain usually comes to mind.
Not this trip.
We experienced beautiful sunny skies, comfortable temperatures, and nearly perfect weather every day.
It made walking downtown enjoyable and allowed us to spend hours exploring without ever feeling rushed.
Seattle truly shines during the summer months.
Why We’ll Absolutely Return
Some destinations are enjoyable.
Others leave you planning your next visit before you’ve even flown home.
Seattle definitely falls into that second category.
There are still neighborhoods we want to explore.
Restaurants we want to revisit.
Coffee shops we didn’t have time to try.
And honestly…
I’d happily stay at the Grand Hyatt Seattle again in a heartbeat.
Its unbeatable downtown location, exceptional service, beautiful accommodations, wellness amenities, and thoughtful touches made it one of the highlights of our trip.
As someone who loves sharing memorable travel experiences, this is exactly the type of hotel I enjoy recommending because I know others will love it just as much.
